BABY TALK..........

Our veterinarian sees a LOT of young puppies that are not feeling well due to stress.  I cannot emphasize strongly enough how important it is for your new puppy to have enough rest when you first get him home.  He is not unlike a human baby in his requirement to eat frequently and sleep a lot when he is young.  When you first receive your puppy he will be TIRED and STRESSED!  He woke up early, rode in the car almost an hour to get to the airport and then flew to his destination.  He landed in an environment totally different than where he was raised with nothing whatsoever familiar to him.  Jet lag is real to us and to pets.  He needs frequent "down time" in his pet carrier that he arrived in until he gets a little older.  The older he gets the less time he will need his power naps.  Puppies play extremely hard and those power naps are important!

PLEASE, please,  give this baby time to bond with you and your family and get familiar with his surroundings before introducing him to still more changes such as taking him to friend's homes, shopping, etc.  He will accept his new friends, car ride and whatever you want him to do, much easier if he is rested and has bonded with his new family.   It will only take 3 or 4 days until he feels comfortable with you in your home and will be ready to strut his stuff with the best of them!  Delaying his "See My New Puppy" trips for just a few days is much easier than taking an exhausted puppy to the veterinarian!

BEDDING:  Our puppies sleep on the oblong shaped "crate pads" with the higher rounded edges from birth.  They love to use the higher edge as a pillow.  The pads are designed to fit in a pet taxi but will fit in a lot of other beds.  They wash and bleach really well and last a long time.  If you need to purchase a new bed for your puppy I am sure they would like one of this type that they are accustomed to.
